How To Write a Winning Cover Letter!”

By writing a covering letter you will already have the upper hand on a lot of applicants.
Believe it or not but a lot of applicants don’t bother writing cover letters which is a missed opportunity.

A cover letter is a selling tool. It’s an opportunity to highlight your strengths and why you are the best candidate for the job.

Begin to explain your main selling point early on – example: “As you can see from my CV, I am currently working for ABC as a Pastry Chef. In this position I am responsible for ………….”

Always sound upbeat and enthusiastic about working for the company and include:
  • That you wish to apply for the job
  • The title of the job you want to apply for
  • Where you saw the vacancy advertised
  • Why you want the job
  • Why you think your skills and experience make you suitable for the job

Always address you letter to a named person – avoid using “Dear Sir” or “Dear Madam” when possible. If the person you are addressing your letter is a woman, be sure the title in your letter matches her marital status! If necessary, call the employer to ask the name of the person you should send your CV to and ensure you spell names correctly as this is proven to be the first thing the reader will evaluate you and your letter on.

Check your letter carefully and remove any spelling and grammatical errors before typing your name at the bottom of the letter and signing it above.

And remember……

A badly written or long winded letter invariably ends up in the bin, along with its accompanying CV, without even being read fully.

All the best
